Cliff Bungalow 8
Cliff Bungalow 8 was an ambitious project initiated by RNDSQR for a lot on Fifth Street SW between an existing four unit townhouse building—the Salix project our sister company Inertia designed some years ago—and a laneway. We proposed eight apartment style units over an at-grade parking garage accessed from the lane. A lobby and main stairwell both face the street and together hide the garage. We designed the exterior facade with an eight-bit graphic style using black brick that appears to slowly engulf the building.
Detailed project costing revealed that the eight units could not support the cost of the parkade. The project was then redesigned by Inertia as a four-unit townhouse building that RNDSQR named Cliff Bungalow 05 (or #CB05YYC) because of it’s Fifth Street address. Entrances to each townhouse are provided along an arcade facing the Salix, private garages abut the lane, and outdoor amenity spaces are at the roof level.
