Sunalta Pie
Sunalta Pie is a four unit ground-oriented townhouse building in the South of Calgary's Sunalta community just east of Royal Sunalta Park. It gets its name because of the slight pie shape of the parcel that it’s built upon.
The facades are distinguished with two large blocks of divided warehouse-style windows. Each of these is surrounded by the steel shadow box which at once provides shade to the interior and gives the window a strong shadow line on the principal mass of the building. The heavy steel motif reappears in the canopy over the entry doors.
The floorplan is a “foursquare” layout with front and rear unit plans being mirrored on a spine. To fit the site, the east units are slid backwards, which also in turn breaks up the building massing.
The four units each have a single garaged parking stall and together achieve a density of just over 64 units per hectare.
