David Charlton AT
Architectural Technologist

David joined Gravity in the middle of 2022 as an Architectural Technologist. Originally from the Lower Mainland area of BC, David moved to Calgary in 2007 and received his BA in Political Science from the University of Calgary in 2014. After a year working in insurance, David realized this career path wasn’t for him. He always had a fascination in architecture and the process of how buildings are constructed, citing the work of Arthur Erikson as a main source of inspiration and curiosity. His love for West Coast Modern architecture, combined with the idea of having a career that takes designs and makes them into real-world construction, the architecture industry appealed greatly to him.

With that in mind, David returned to school to pursue a career in architecture, graduating from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) in 2018 with a diploma in Architectural Technology. Prior to joining Gravity, David began his career as an AT at Systemic Architecture Inc., where he quickly developed his skills. Projects included work on various commercial, mixed-use, hospitality, and multi-family projects including Basecamp Resorts (a resort chain that operates in various mountain towns of Alberta and B.C) and The Shops at Buffalo Run (a multi-building commercial development in Tsuut'ina Nation, just outside of Calgary).

Outside the office, David is typically playing hockey, snowboarding, or enjoying one of the numerous hiking trails in the nearby mountains with his dog Indiana (Indy). Beyond athletics, David often has tickets to the latest concerts and is also a budding photographer with a focus on architecture, nature, and landscapes. Complimenting his photography passion, David can also be found travelling to striking destinations; having most recently visited Peru, he is already looking forward to and planning the next travel adventure.
